New Project

For my next project, I am going to try to make the gown Cersei wears in Game of Thrones. The fabric is not the same, so the effect will be different. Below are a couple of photos, including one of Cersei in the dress.

Progress Six-Pirates Dress- Finished!

Finally finished the handwork on the dress this morning. Lining sewn, and hems done. It's been an interesting project; not something I usually do, but I think I might make another similar one!

Progress Five- Pirates Dress

I've pinned the over skirt to the bodice and put in the grommets for the back. They are supported by a steel bone for strength. Getting there, slowly but surely!

Progress Four-Pirates Dress

Getting there after a few hiccups! Bought some trim for the sleeves, but after pinning it on, I decided it was a bit too much, so looking for something a little more muted. Sleeves set in, lining finished and lace on. Tomorrow, the skirt, which involves much pleating and gathering. Also need to do the eyelets. I haven't decided whether to do traditional sewn eyelets, or use grommets.

Progress Three - Pirates Dress

Pics of the bodice with the underskirt. The overskirt wil be much fuller, and attached to the bodice, which the underskirt is not.All seams are serged, which is not technically historically accurate, but I'd rather go for solid construction than be too picky about it, And taffeta frays if you look at it sideways! Although, I will not put a zip in a historical dress! Have to hand finish the waistband, and hem, then it is finished, and the next big job is the overskirt.

These shots are of the outside of the bodice. The main bodice and overskirt are in the brocade; the underskirt and stomacher in taffeta.

Progress on Pirates Dress

I'll be posting updates to the dress construction as I go. The boning channels are on the inside (the lining) so they don't show on the outside. This will be evident when I put the outer pieces together and join them to the lining. The plain taffeta is the lining, and the brocade will be on the outside, with the taffeta beaded stomacher.
